Introduction
The Shikhar Bandh Jain Mandir is situated in Rajasthali Apartments, Pitampura, Delhi. Upon entering the temple complex, visitors are immediately enveloped in a sense of divine tranquility. Constructed with red sandstone, the temple was built with significant contributions from the Jain community, as well as from Shri R.S. Jain and Shri Satender Jain of Hisar. The foundation stone and the consecration ceremony, including the Panch Kalyanak, were conducted under the guidance of Pandit Gulab Chandji and Pandit Jai Kumar Nishant ji. The Panch Kalyanak Mahotsav was held from April 16 to April 23, 2008, with the presence of Acharya Shri Bahubali Maharaj and his 17 Pichhi Sangh. The temple is beautifully adorned with marble, enhancing its aesthetic grandeur. A towering Shikhar (spire on top) crowns the temple, while the total area of the structure spans 400 square yards, showcasing its impressive scale. Outside, the Jain flag flies proudly, symbolizing the honor and legacy of Jainism. Upon entering the Garbh Grah (sanctum sanctorum), visitors are greeted by the magnificent idol of Shri 1008 Parshvanath Bhagwan in the Padmasana posture.
“This sacred space is renowned for the Atishay (numinous presence) of Bhagwan Parshvanath's idol, believed to alleviate the suffering and pain experienced by devotees.”
The idol attracts visitors from across Delhi, who come from distant areas to offer their prayers. In addition to the main idol, laghu (smaller) idols of Bhagwan Adinath, Bhagwan Chandraprabhu, Bhagwan Shantinath, Bhagwan Munisuvratnath, Bhagwan Mahavir, and Bhagwan Parshvanath are also enshrined here. Together, seven Tirthankar idols are seated on the main Vedi (altar). On the second Vedi, an idol of Jinvani Mata is revered, while on the third Vedi, an idol of Mata Padmavati is enshrined. The temple’s walls are adorned with paintings illustrating the 44 aspects of the Kalyan Mandir Stotra, created under the guidance of Acharya Shri 108 Bahubali Maharaj’s disciple, Shrut Devi Suganani Mataji. These paintings not only enrich the temple's inner beauty but also provide insight into the greatness and profound teachings of Jainism. Every day, over a hundred Jain families visit the temple. Alongside the Jain temple, there is also a Vedic Hindu temple, fostering a sense of unity between the Jain and Vedic communities, with devotees from both groups visiting regularly. The mandir ji has hosted visits from several revered Jain saints, including Shri 108 Pranamya Sagar Maharaj, Shri 108 Veer Sagar Maharaj, Shri 108 Dhaval Sagar Maharaj, Shri 108 Sunil Sagar Maharaj, and Upadhyaya Shri 108 Guptisagar Maharaj. Daily prayers and rituals are carried out by the Jain community, while public service remains an ongoing tradition within the Jain society. Shri Chaman Lal Jain, the head of the temple committee, along with his family, has made significant contributions to social causes across India, including donations of books, clothing, food, and organizing welfare camps. The family also played a pivotal role in the construction of the temple.
Jain Samaj
The Jain community at Rajasthali Apartments consists of around fifty prosperous Jain families who actively contribute to various social welfare initiatives, such as supporting underprivileged children, organizing food distribution, and offering other social services. The temple is efficiently managed by the Shri Digambar Jain Sabha of Rajasthali Apartments, Pitampura. To accommodate visitors from other areas, the temple provides facilities including pooja samagri arrangements and bathing amenities. Additionally, a Jivani Yantra has been installed in the temple complex for the abhishek (ritual bath) of the idol. Since the temple frequently hosts Jain saints, a separate Sant Bhavan (residence for saints) has also been constructed.
