Committee

To ensure the smooth functioning of the temple, the Shri 1008 Digambar Jain Temple Committee has been established. A remarkable feature of this committee is that all key positions are held by women, setting an example of female empowerment. Despite this, both men and women actively participate in decision-making, ensuring the efficient management of temple affairs. The committee members are as follows:

Introduction

Shri 1008 Digambar Jain Temple, located in Sector 5, Rohini, Delhi, holds a significant place in the spiritual landscape of the region. In 1989, as Jain families began settling across various parts of Delhi, including Rohini Sector 5, the absence of a local Jain temple meant that devotees had to travel elsewhere for worship. To address this need, a dedicated committee was formed under the leadership of the esteemed Lala Shri Hemchand Jain, comprising members from both the Digambar and Shwetambar Jain communities. The committee identified suitable land for the construction of a Digambar Jain temple and a Sthanak. Under the guidance of Pandit Gulab Chand Ji, the foundation stone was laid in the year 2000. The temple’s first floor was inaugurated on April 30, 2001, in the revered presence of Upadhyay Shri 108 Guptisagar Ji Maharaj. Subsequently, in 2003, the second-floor sanctum was consecrated under the guidance of Acharya Shri 108 Saurabh Sagar Ji Maharaj, marking another milestone in the temple’s history. The Shri 1008 Digambar Jain Temple in Rohini stands as a beacon of faith, unity, and spiritual enlightenment, offering a divine experience to all devotees.

The temple’s main Garbh Grah (sanctum), situated on the ground floor, enshrines the idol of Shri 1008 Parshvanath Bhagwan as the Moolnayak (principal deity). Revered for its Atishay (numinous presence), the idol attracts devotees from far and wide. Alongside Bhagwan Parshvanath, the Vedi also houses the idols of Bhagwan Mahavir and Bhagwan Chandraprabhu, further enriching the temple’s spiritual significance. On the second floor, a dedicated Vedi is devoted to Bhagwan Shantinath, accompanied by four additional idols, enhancing the temple’s divine ambiance. The sanctums are exquisitely adorned with intricate gold work, offering visitors a truly sacred experience. The inner sanctum, adorned with delicate glasswork, further elevates its aesthetic and spiritual appeal. A striking architectural highlight of the temple is the presence of 64 Chauvar, meticulously arranged in a circular formation, an extraordinary feature found in only a select few Jain temples. Above the sanctum, a magnificent silver canopy crowns the structure, adding to its grandeur and divine splendor.

Daily rituals, including Puja-Prakshal (worship) and Abhishek (auspicious ablution of the idol), are devoutly performed by dedicated devotees such as Shri Dinesh Jain, Shri Dharmbir Jain, Shri Rakesh Jain, Shri Mukesh Jain, Shri Vikas Jain, and Shri Ankit Jain. To promote spiritual awareness within the Jain community, religious programs are organized periodically. Additionally, the temple committee arranges biannual Jain pilgrimage tours, providing devotees the opportunity to visit revered Jain religious sites. Since 2003, monthly religious ceremonies have been conducted, featuring the recitation of the Bhaktamar Stotra, deepening the devotion of followers. The temple has been graced by the presence of many revered Jain saints, including Upadhyay Shri 108 Guptisagar Ji Maharaj, Acharya Shri 108 Saurabh Sagar Ji Maharaj, Acharya Shri 108 Vivek Sagar Ji Maharaj, Shri 108 Ativir Ji Maharaj, Shri 108 Pragya Sagar Ji Maharaj, and Shri 108 Saubhagya Sagar Ji Maharaj, whose visits have brought divine blessings to the community. Adjacent to the temple, a Jain Sthanak serves as a hub for fostering harmony between the Digambar and Shwetambar Jain communities. Members from both sects actively participate in religious and social events, reinforcing unity and brotherhood within the community.

Atishay Katha

“The idol of Bhagwan Parshvanath enshrined in the temple is revered as Atishaykari, signifying its divine and miraculous presence.”

It is believed that celestial beings (Devs) have visited the temple during the night, reinforcing its sacred aura. One such extraordinary event occurred when Muni Shri Ativir Ji Maharaj was resting in the temple. During the night, his feet were initially positioned toward the temple’s Shikhar (spire on the top), but suddenly they were mysteriously shifted in the opposite direction, an occurrence attributed to divine intervention. Upon awakening, Maharaj Ji recounted this remarkable experience, affirming the temple’s sanctity and spiritual power. Another miraculous incident took place when a female devotee, engaged in deep prayer near the sanctum of Bhagwan Parshvanath, witnessed a serpent close to the idol. As she turned to alert others, the serpent vanished instantly. Additionally, several devotees have reported hearing the melodious chime of temple bells at unusual hours, further strengthening their faith in the divine presence of Bhagwan Parshvanath. The temple is widely believed to be a place of divine blessings, where sincere prayers are fulfilled. It also serves as a source of hope and solace for Jain patients receiving treatment at the nearby Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital, who visit the temple seeking Bhagwan Parshvanath’s blessings for recovery and well-being.

Jain Samaj

To efficiently manage the operations of Shri 1008 Digambar Jain Temple in Rohini Sector 5, a registered temple committee has been established. The temple welcomes devotees from nearby areas, providing them with all essential amenities for a comfortable and enriching spiritual experience. The temple complex features a spacious discourse hall, where visiting Jain saints deliver spiritual sermons and discourses. Beyond religious activities, the committee is actively involved in social welfare initiatives, including providing food to the underprivileged and donating books to schools, fostering education and community well-being.

To deepen devotees' spiritual connection, the committee organizes Jain pilgrimage tours at regular intervals. Additionally, a Jain education center, led by Mrs. Anu Jain, offers structured learning programs to promote Jain teachings and values. Mrs. Anu Jain also plays a crucial role in promoting yoga within the community by conducting regular yoga classes, enhancing both physical and mental well-being. Furthermore, the temple committee operates a medical dispensary, providing allopathic, homeopathic, and dental treatments, ensuring accessible healthcare for the local community.

History

Delhi, the National Capital Territory of India, serves as the political and administrative center of the country. It is home to the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the Indian government. Situated on the banks of the Yamuna River, Delhi has a rich historical and cultural heritage, dating back to the Indus Valley Civilization. Archaeological findings in the Haryana region suggest its ancient significance. With the rise of the Delhi Sultanate, the city emerged as a major political, cultural, and commercial hub. Numerous historic and medieval structures, such as the Qutub Minar, Iron Pillar, Purana Qila, and Safdarjung's Tomb, showcase Delhi’s glorious past.

Delhi finds mention in the epic Mahabharata as Indraprastha, the capital of the Pandavas. Today, it is not only the political capital of India but also a major tourist destination. The city boasts modern architectural marvels such as Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House, and Central Secretariat, as well as historic landmarks like the Birla Temple, Akshardham Temple, Jama Masjid, Bangla Sahib Gurudwara, Lotus Temple, and India Gate. Presently, Delhi stands as the commercial epicenter of India.
