Introduction
Shri 1008 Chandraprabhu Digambar Jain Mandir is located in Agon village, 54 kilometers from Nuh city in the Nuh district of Haryana. The temple was constructed 150 years ago by the ancestors of Shri Vipin Jain, the current caretaker of the temple. At one time, several Jain families resided in this area, but there are no Jain families left here today. Despite the absence of any Jain families in the area, worship and rituals are performed regularly every day at the temple. The worship and rituals of the idols are carried out by Shri Vipin Jain's family, who now lives in Firozpur Jhirka, about eight kilometers from Agon.
The temple originally had only one altar (Vedi). The Moolnayak Pratima (main deity’s idol) in the Vedi is of Shri 1008 Chandraprabhu Bhagwan, made of white stone. This idol was consecrated during the Panchkalyanak (consecration ceremony) at Indore and is about 150 years old. Alongside the idol, there are also the idols of Shri Parshvanath Bhagwan and Shri Shantinath Bhagwan made of Ashtadhatu (eight metals).
Twenty to twenty-five years ago, there were only two idols on the Vedi: the Moolnayak Pratima of Shri Chandraprabhu Bhagwan and the idol of Shri Parshvanath Bhagwan. However, from a vastu perspective, this was not considered appropriate. Therefore, under the guidance of Jain Sadhu Maharaj Ji, the idol of Shri Shantinath Bhagwan was enshrined in the temple.
The Vedi Pratistha in the temple was conducted during the year 2018-2019. The Vedi and the walls of the Garbh Grah (sanctum sanctorum) in the temple are adorned with beautiful golden work and Jain paintings that depict Jain narratives. Jain Sadhu Maharaj visits the area from time to time. To this date, Shri 108 Shantisagar Ji Maharaj and Shri 108 Gyanasagar Ji Maharaj have visited the temple.
Dharamshala
Approximately eight kilometers from Agon, in Firozpur Jhirka, there is a prosperous Jain community consisting of around 150 Jain families. The Jain community participates enthusiastically in all activities related to the temple. If a pilgrim comes from a distant area to visit the temple, the Jain community arranges appropriate accommodations for them.
In 1996, the Samadhi (memorial) of Jain Muni Shri 108 Gyanbhushan Ji's guru, Shri 108 Shantisagar Ji, was established in Firozpur Jhirka. He wished to build a girls' college for the economically weaker section of the society. This wish was fulfilled by the Jain community in 1996 when they laid the foundation for the Jain Girls' college. The college was completed in 1999 and named Shri Shanti Sagar Jain Girls' College. Later, a Jain High School was also constructed within the same premises.
History
Nuh is one of the 22 districts in the Indian state of Haryana. Nuh is also commonly known as Satyamev Puram and Mewat. The name Satyamev Puram was given by Gandhi Ji, and it is called Mewat due to the large number of Mewati people. The district covers an area of 1,860 square kilometers (720 square miles) and has a population of 1.09 million. It is bordered by Gurgaon district to the north, Rewari district to the west, and Faridabad and Palwal districts to the east. The area is predominantly Muslim and forms the modern southern part of Haryana and northeastern Rajasthan. The main economic activity in the district is agriculture-based.
