Introduction
Bhagwan Mahavir Abhyudaya Atishay Kshetra, also known as Mahavir Park Digambar Jain Mandir, is located near Sadar Bazaar in the Gurugram district of Haryana. Before the construction of the temple, there used to be only a park in this area. In the year 1974, the 2500th Veer Nirvan Utsav was being celebrated. At that time, the Irrigation Minister of Haryana was Shri Banarsi Das Gupta Ji. On the occasion of the 2500th Nirvan Utsav, he dedicated the park to Bhagwan Mahavir Swami. Later, he became the fourth Chief Minister of Haryana.
At that time, the population of Gurugram was very less and the park was also not being properly maintained. Therefore in 1996, the Jain community constructed a Vedi (altar) and enshrined the idol of Shri Mahavir Bhagwan there. This transformed the park into a temple. Over time, the Jain community undertook various other construction works in the temple premises. Upon entering the temple premises, one can witness a magnificent Manstambh. The Moolnayak Pratima (main deity’s idol) in the temple is of Shri Mahavir BhagwanJi. In the second Vedi of the temple, there is an idol of Shri Parshvanath Bhagwan in the standing posture. Along with the Moolnayak Pratima, idols of other Jain Tirthankars are also enshrined in the Vedi. In the temple premises, there is also a temple of Mata Padmavati Ji, where along with Mata Padmavati Ji Vedi, there is also a Vedi of Jain protector deity Shri Kshetrapal Baba Ji. In the meditation center (built in the temple premises), there are twenty-four Ratanmayi pratima (precious stone idols) in the Hrim ‘ह्रीं'. Along with the temple, there is also a temple of the guardian deity of the region, where people from other communities worship according to their customs and traditions.
Whenever a Jain Saint arrives at Gurugram, they definitely visit the Bhagwan Mahavir Abhyuday Atishay Kshetra. Proper worship rituals including Puja and Abhishek (auspicious bath of the idol) are performed in the temple by Pandit Shri Subham Shastri Ji. Shastri Ji conducts various Jain auspicious ceremonies in the area such as Siddhachakra Mahamandal Vidhan, Vivah Sanskar (ceremonial walk around the fire), Vastuvidhan, Shri Bhaktambar Paath, Padmavati Mata ki Chonki, Naamkaran Sanskar, construction of buildings according to vastu shastra, Shakti Vidhan and the Panch Parmeshthi Vidhan. The Digambar Jain community, Shwetambar Jain community, Terapanthi Jain community, and the Bispanthi Jain community all hold the temple in high esteem. According to the need, people from all communities come together to contribute to the rituals and ceremonies.
Dharamshala
Gurugram has evolved into an industrial hub equipped with all kinds of facilities, where people from various communities reside together. There are approximately seven to eight hundred Jain families in Gurugram. Several Jain temples have been established in the area, with each temple having its own committee. Every day, Jain devotees visit the temple. Provision of a pure environment is available in the temple for the devotees. Adjacent to the temple is a large hall used for special events. To accommodate pilgrims coming from distant areas to visit the temple, arrangements have been made for eight rooms. Just 800 meters away from the temple, in Jaikampura, is the Shri 1008 Parshvanath Digambar Jain Temple. Along with the temple, the Bhagwan Parshvanath Charitable Medicare Center operates, offering facilities such as homeopathy, physiotherapy, eye care, dentistry, pediatric care, and dermatology services.
