Introduction
Shri 1008 Parshvanath Digambar Jain Mandir is located approximately 20 kilometers away from Delhi, near the Faridabad Bypass Road. In 1976, there were no Jain temples in the vicinity, which required the Jain community members to travel about 8 kilometers to Ballabhgarh to visit the temple. Witnessing this situation, Shri Jinendra Kumar Jain and his family felt deeply saddened.
“They believed that it was essential for the local Jain community not to be deprived of spiritual benefits.”
Shri Jinendra Kumar Jain and his family generously donated 250 square yards of land for the construction of a Chaityalaya (a place of worship). Subsequently, with the efforts of the local Jain community, a Chaityalaya was constructed on the donated land, and an idol of Shri 1008 Parshvanath Bhagwan was temporarily established. This eliminated the need for people to travel to other areas for daily darshan. After some time, the Jain community transformed the Chaityalaya into a grand structure known as Shikharband Jain Mandir, dedicated to Shri 1008 Parshvanath Bhagwan. On February 4-8, 1984, the consecration ceremony (Panchkalyanak Pratishtha) of the temple was conducted in the presence of Shri 108 Gyan Bhushan Ji Maharaj and other dignitaries. Later, in response to the increasing numbers of Jain devotees visiting the temple daily, the community purchased adjacent plots numbered 1951 and 1950 in 1994 to expand the temple premises. The main Vedi (altar) of the temple is located on the first floor, where the main idol is of Shri Parshvanath Bhagwan. Along with the idol of Shri Parshvanath Bhagwan, there are also idols of other Jain Tirthankar in the Vedi. Since the Mool Vedi (main altar) of the temple was located on the upper floor, elderly people faced difficulty climbing the stairs. Therefore, the Jain community constructed a Vedi on the ground floor as well, where the idol of Shri Adinath Bhagwan is enshrined. Both Vedi have silver-made Abha Mandal and Chhatar (brolly) above them. On the roof of the Garbh Grah (sanctum sanctorum), Tirthankar are depicted on glass paintings. Jain Saints often visit the temple. Acharya Shri 108 Tarun Sagar Ji Maharaj and Acharya Shri 108 Gyanbhushan Ji Maharaj have already observed their Chaturmas at the temple three times. Every day, around 250 to 300 devotees from the local Jain community come to the temple for worship and Abhishek (auspicious bath of the idol).
Dharamshala
In Faridabad, there are approximately 400 to 500 families in the Jain community. There are Jain temples located in different areas of Faridabad. Each temple has a separate committee for its management. It is through these committees that the temples are operated efficiently. In Sector 16 of Faridabad, there is the Shri 1008 Parshvanath Digambar Jain Mandir. Special attention is paid to cleanliness for the devotees who visit the temple daily. From time to time, Jain saints also visit the area. Arrangements for their stay are made in the Acharya Shri Deshbhushan Nirlay Bhawan. Medical treatment is also provided in the basement of the Nirlay bhawan. The temple committee also operates a homeopathic dispensary. If any pilgrim contacts the temple and visits, arrangements for their stay are also provided by the Jain community. The temple committee actively participates in all kinds of social programs. To instill a sense of respect for religion among children, every Sunday, through the medium of the temple, moral education classes are conducted to provide children with education related to Jainism.
