Introduction
The 1008 Parshvanath Digambar Jain Temple is located in Punhana, Nuh district, Haryana. It is situated at an approximate distance of 52 kilometers from Tijara Ji and 32 kilometers from Firozpur Jhirka. Initially, the temple was located one kilometer away in the Sarafa Bazaar as a Chaityalaya. The construction of the Chaityalaya was undertaken by a Jain individual between 1980 and 1985. Later, the Chaityalaya was handed over to the Jain community by that individual. Due to the increasing population of Jain Shravak in the Chaityalaya and the inconvenience faced by elderly people who had to travel one kilometer into the bazar, the Jain community purchased a 500 square yard land where the temple is currently situated and constructed the temple.
A 51-foot tall Shikhar (spire on top) has been constructed atop the temple, which attracts people's attention from afar. The Panchkalyanak (consecration ceremony) of the temple took place between 2005 and 2006 in the presence of Jain Ratna Acharya Shri 108 Gyan Sagar Ji Maharaj. Jain Muni Maharaj’s arrival is a regular occurrence at the temple. The revered Acharya, including Acharya Shri 108 Gyanbhushan Ji Maharaj, Acharya Shri 108 Vasunandi Ji Maharaj, Acharya Shri 108 Gyan Sagar Ji Maharaj, Aryika Ratna 105 Vandana Mata Ji, and Acharya Shri 108 Vinit Sagar Ji Maharaj, have visited the temple premises.
The temple Garbh Grah (sanctum sanctorum) comprises three Vedi (altar). The Mool (main) Vedi of the temple houses the Moolnayak Pratima (main deity’s idol) of Shri 1008 Parshvanath Bhagwan. This idol of Shri 1008 Parshvanath Bhagwan is remarkably attractive and captivating. People from distant areas come to see this idol. In the Mool Vedi, there are also idols of Shri Munisuvratnath Bhagwan and Shri Parshvanath bhagwan, made of silver, which were established during the auspicious occasion of Siddh Chakra Vidhan in the year 2012 by two Jain families. Additionally, the idol of Shri Adinath bhagwan and Shri Chandraprabhu bhagwan are also enshrined in the Mool Vedi. Apart from the Mool Vedi, the other two Vedi houses the pratima of Shri Shantinath bhagwan and Shri Mahavir Bhagwan. Every year after the Daslakshan Parv (ten cardinal virtues), the Jain community organizes a grand procession, known as the Shobha Yatra, to showcase a Pratima of the temple mounted on a palanquin for darshan throughout the city. During this captivating festival, the Jain communities from Punhana, Bichhor, and other areas come together, celebrating this auspicious occasion collectively. Additionally, daily worship rituals including Puja-Prakshal, and Jalabhishek are performed by Jain devotees in the temple.
Dharamshala
In Punhana, the Jain community comprises only twenty-five to twenty-six Jain families. Despite the small number, the Jain community actively participates in various social activities. There is no committee established for the management of the temple; instead, all Jain families collectively contribute to the temple's activities. The temple premises have well-maintained accommodations for Jain Saints and there are eleven rooms available for Jain pilgrims who come from distant areas to visit the temple. The Jain community ensures cleanliness arrangements for the Jain pilgrims who visit the temple daily.
