Panipat Huda Jain Mandir

Introduction
Shri 1008 Adinath Digambar Jain Mandir is located in Huda Sector 12, Panipat. It is said that when the expansion of Huda Sectors 11 and 12 was taking place in Panipat, members of the Jain community started settling there. In Panipat, there are a total of 5 Jain temples located in Jain Mohalla, Kayasthan Mohalla, Main Bazaar, and Agarwal Mandi. But the distance of all these temples from Sectors 11 & 12 was far, therefore a need was felt among the community members for the construction of a temple. At that time, the renowned Jain industrialist Shri Sukhmal Jain purchased land for the construction of the temple and handed it over to the Jain Panchayat. With unanimous approval from the Shri Digambar Jain Panchayat, the construction of the temple commenced. The foundation stone laying ceremony of the temple was held on April 11, 1994, under the guidance of Lala Shanti Prasad Jain, who was the President of the Jain Committee at that time.
In 1997, Chaturmas of Shri Saurabh Sagar Ji Maharaj happened in Panipat. After nearly 135 years, a Chaturmas of a Digambar Jain Muni Ji was held on the land of Panipat. It was decided then, that in the presence of Shri Saurabh Sagar Maharaj Ji, the Panchkalyanak (consecration ceremony) of the temple would be held under the guidance of Acharya Pushpdant Sagar Maharaj Ji. The Panchkalyanak of the temple was held on April 26, 1999. The Panchkalyanak of the temple not only holds significance for Panipat but also for the entire state of Haryana as it became a historic landmark. It is said during the foundation stone laying ceremony of the temple, Sukhmal Jain Ji’s family was fortunate to get the chance to place the first brick made of diamond in the temple. However, he stated that this privilege should be given to someone who worships and performs rituals in the temple daily after its construction. Accordingly, this privilege was bestowed upon Shri Bhagwan Das Jain Ji.
The present temple houses a Garbh Grah (sanctum sanctorum) where the Moolnayak Pratima (main deity’s idol) of Shri 1008 Adinath Bhagwan Ji along with other idols made of Ashtadhatu (eight metals) are enshrined. From April 18 to June 4, 2018, for the first time in Panipat, a 48-day Bhaktamar Mahamandal Vidhan was organized, during which worship of the Bhagwan was conducted with 64 silver Chhatar (brolly) and 48 Deep (lamp).
Jain Samaj
The Jain community in Panipat comprises 100 to 150 families. Despite being relatively small in number, the Jain community actively participates in various social programs. Due to the dispersion of the Jain community in different areas of Panipat, Digambar Jain temples are also constructed in different locations. However, regardless of their locations, all temples are managed by the Panipat Pachranga Bazar Bada Mandir Digambar Jain Committee, located about 2.5 kilometers from Huda Sector 12, Panipat. The committee ensures the convenience of the devotees visiting the temple, especially during worship and ritual ceremonies. For the convenience of Jain pilgrims coming from outside, a Digambar Jain Dharamshala has been constructed to provide accommodation. The Dharamshala consists of seven rooms and two large halls for the pilgrims. Additionally, parking facilities are available for the vehicles of pilgrims coming from distant areas. Within the temple premises, facilities for stay and Aahar (food) are provided at the Tyagi Bhavan for Jain Munis. Furthermore, a homeopathic center is operated by the temple committee, offering appropriate medicines at nominal charges. A Jain Kids School is also situated within the temple complex, providing education up to the 5th grade for children.
History
Panipat is an ancient and historic city located in the state of Haryana, India. It has been the center of many significant events in Indian history. The ancient name of Panipat was 'Paniprasth'. It is situated on National Highway-1 between Delhi and Chandigarh. It falls under the National Capital Region and is located about 90 kilometers from Delhi. According to Jain literature, Panipat was also known as ‘Panipath Durgh’ during that time. Three important battles were fought in Panipat in the years 1526, 1556, and 1761. The language spoken in Panipat is Haryanvi. Panipat is part of the National Capital Region. There are several historical sites in Panipat such as the Panipat Fort, Ibrahim Lodhi's Tomb, Abdali's Tomb, etc. In modern times, Panipat has emerged as an important industrial center with the establishment of various industries contributing significantly to its economy. Panipat also holds a special place in tourism due to its numerous historical sites that attract tourists. Panipat is also a repository of Indian cultural heritage where festivals, fairs, and religious events are given importance. The Panipat region is significant from the perspectives of Indian history, culture, and economy. Its historical evidence, major battles, and cultural heritage have given it a special status.
