Introduction
Shri 1008 Mahavir Digambar Jain Mandir is located in Palam Vihar, Gurugram district of Haryana. It is also known as Mahavirodaya Dharmasthan. The construction of the temple was initiated around 12-13 years ago by individuals from the local Jain community, initially as a Jain Chaityalaya. Due to the increase in the number of Jain families in the area, the decision was made by the Jain community to convert the temple from a Chaityalaya to a full-fledged temple. The temple premises were expanded for its construction. Initially, there was only one Vedi (altar) in the Chaityalaya. It was decided by the entire Jain community to construct two more Vedi within the Chaityalaya. From November 28 to December 4, 2022, Shri Majjinendra 1008 Mahavir Jinabimb Panchkalyanak and Vishwashanti Mahayagya was conducted under the guidance of Rashtriya Guru Paramparacharya Shri 108 Prajnasagar Ji Maharaj, Gayanini Aryika Shri 105 Shruthadevi Mata Ji, and Prajnaashramani Aryika Shri 105 Sujnan Mata Ji and the entire Jain community.
The outer walls and Vedi of the temple have been adorned with stone sculptures. Three new Vedi have been constructed within the temple, each adorned with a Shikhar (spire on the top). In the Mool (main) Vedi of the temple, there is a white marble Padmasana Pratima (idol) of Shri 1008 Mahavir Bhagwan Ji. The idol of Bhagwan Mahavir Swami is extremely attractive and captivating. This idol demonstrates the samavsharan (divine preaching) using white marble, depicting swastikas on both sides of Bhagwan Ji. Above Bhagwan Ji, the depiction of Indra offering flowers, jewels, along with the depiction of Indra chariot, is beautifully illustrated. In this Vedi, idols of Shri 1008 Shitalnath Bhagwan, Shri 1008 Chandraprabhu Bhagwan, Shri 1008 Shantinath Bhagwan, and other deities are also enshrined.
In the second Vedi of the temple, the Moolnayak Pratima (main deity’s idol) is of Shri 1008 Vasupujya Bhagwan. Along with the Moolnayak Pratima, idols of Shri 1008 Munisuvratnath Bhagwan, Shri 1008 Neminath Bhagwan, and Shri 1008 Pushpadanta Bhagwan, along with other deities, are also enshrined. The Moolnayak Pratima in the third Vedi of the temple is of Ratnamayi Shri 1008 Parshvanath Bhagwan Ji. Along with the Moolnayak Pratima, idols of Shri 1008 Adinath Bhagwan, Shri 1008 Chandraprabhu Bhagwan, Shri 1008 Ajitnath Bhagwan and Chaubisi Pratima are also enshrined.
From time to time, Jain Saints have visited the temple. The arrival of Jain Saints brings about a special energy among the people. As the Jain Saints frequently visit the region, a Sant Bhavan is being constructed adjacent to the temple for their stay. Additionally for Pilgrims who come from distant areas to visit the temple, arrangements for their accommodation are being made near the temple premises. Since regular worship, cleansing rituals, and Jalabhishek (auspicious bath of the idol) are performed daily at the temple, the arrangements for priests have also been made by the Jain community.
Dharamshala
Currently, Gurugram has become an industrial hub equipped with all kinds of facilities. There are approximately seven hundred to eight hundred Jain families in Gurugram. Several Jain temples have been established in the area, and committees have been formed for each temple. The Shri 1008 Mahavir Digambar Jain Mandir is located in Block J & K (Palam Vihar) in Gurugram. All kinds of amenities are provided for the devotees visiting the temple. From time to time, Jain Munis (Saints) visit the temple. Arrangements for their stay are made in the Tyagi Bhavan constructed by the temple committee. A pilgrim residence is also being constructed adjacent to the temple premises, where arrangements will be made for the accommodation of devotees who come to visit the temple from distant areas.
