Mussoorie Digambar Jain Mandir
Introduction
Landour city is located about 4 kilometers from Mussoorie and is situated on the Chamba Mussoorie Road. Landour was initially established by the British as a sanitary station, later evolving into a city. Shri 1008 Digambar Jain Panchayati Mandir is located in Landour. Before the construction of the temple, it served as a Jain family's Chaityalaya in this affluent Jain community. The nearby Nisima Hotel's owners used to take care of the Chaityalaya. After their demise, the Chaityalaya was handed over to the Mussoorie Jain community. The Jain community later constructed the temple and established other Vedi (altar) within it. Currently, the temple has three Vedi. In the Mool (main) Vedi, there is an idol of Shri 1008 Mahavir Bhagwan made of Ashtadhatu (eight metals). In the second and oldest Vedi of the temple, there is an idol of Shri 1008 Anantnath Bhagwan made of Ashtadhatu along with other idols. In the third Vedi, there is a white khadgasan idol of Shri 1008 Bahubali Bhagwan.
Dharamshala
The construction of the Shri Digambar Jain Mahavir Bhavan Dharamshala in the area has been facilitated by the Jain community of Mussoorie. The Dharamshala comprises 50 rooms, featuring both single and double bed arrangements. There is also a dining hall in the Dharamshala where satvik (vegetarian) meals are prepared. The Dharamshala serves as a significant facility for pilgrims coming from afar. Additionally, the Dharamshala is utilized for various other events and occasions.
History
The distance between Dehradun and Mussoorie is approximately 28 kilometers. Every year, thousands of people visit Mussoorie to enjoy its beautiful and enchanting valleys. Situated about 4 to 5 kilometers from Mussoorie is Landour. Landour is known for its scenic beauty and old colonial bungalows. Originally established as a sanatorium during the British era, Landour gradually developed into a residential area. The distance between Landour and Dehradun railway station is approximately 31 kilometers. Tourists often visit Landour to escape the crowded and peaceful areas. In 1835, during the British colonial period, it was declared a tourist destination. In 1959, the National Academy of Administration was established here, where administrative officials of India are trained.
