Kurukshetra Digambar Jain Mandir
For the management of the temple, a temple committee has been formed. The active members of the committee are as follows :
Introduction
The Moolnayak Pratima (main deity’s idol) in this temple is of Shri Adinath Bhagwan. Initially, along with the stone idol (pratima) of Shri Adinath Bhagwan ji, there were also idols of Shri Padmaprabhu Bhagwan and Shri Mahavir Swami made of Ashtadhatu (eight metals). The Panchkalyanak (consecration ceremony) of the idol of Shri Adinath bhagwan was conducted in Ganaur, while the Panchkalyanak of the idol of Shri Padmaprabhu and Shri Mahavir Swami took place in Safidon. In 2017, two more idols of Shri Shantinath and Shri Parshavanath were established, and their consecration was done in Hansi Panchkalyanak. This Panchkalyanak ceremony was conducted under the guidance of Acharya Shri Vidyasagar Maharaj, along with his disciples Muni Shri Veer Sagar Ji Maharaj, Muni Shri Vishal Sagar Ji Maharaj, and Muni Shri Dhaval Sagar Ji Maharaj.
A one-hour recitation of the Bhaktamar Stotra is performed in the temple. Sometimes, after reciting each verse of the Stotra with the lighting of 48 lamps, a mantra is recited, followed by lighting one lamp. The recitation of the Bhaktamar Stotra has been ongoing for the past 3 years continuously, and with the grace of Shri Adinath Bhagwan, it will continue in the future as well.
There is a Jain community of about 25 families living around 5-7 kilometers away from the temple, for whom the arrangement of a priest has been made. Every day, the members of the community along with the priest perform the Abhishek Abhishek (auspicious bath of the idol) and worship with devotion. The Das Lakshan Parva (ten cardinal virtues) and Mahavir Jayanti are celebrated with great pomp and show every year. Additionally, on the auspicious occasions of the Janam and Moksh Kalyanak of all five deities (present in the temple), special rituals are performed, and laddoos are distributed collectively.
Jain Samaj
Here, there is a small Digambar Jain community, primarily consisting of retired government employees. I would like to mention Dr. Dharmachandra Jain, a pride of Kurukshetra, who retired from Kurukshetra University. He is a scholar of Prakrit language and has been honored with the Presidential Award. Even at the age of about 80 years, he actively participates in temple activities with enthusiasm.
History
Although the city of Kurukshetra may not require any introduction, it is adorned with various attractions such as the Brahma Sarovar, Sannihit Sarovar, Birla Temple, Jyotisar Tirtha, Panorama, Sheikh Chilli's Tomb, Gurudwara Chati Patshahi and several Vaishno temples. Recently constructed, the temple of Tirupati Balaji (located just one kilometer away from the Jain temple) is also worth visiting. Kurukshetra has a deep connection with Arya civilization and the emergence of the holy Saraswati River. It is the land where the Manusmriti, written by Rishi Manu, originated. The name Kurukshetra is derived from King Kuru, symbolizing the great sacrifices made for the prosperity of this land and its people.
