Introduction
Shri 1008 Bhagwan Adinath Digambar Jain Mandir in Hisar is located in Jain Gali, Nagori Gate. Due to being the largest temple complex in the area, it is also referred to as the Bada Jain Mandir Ji. The construction of the temple was initiated by King Shri Harsukh Rai Jain and his son Shri Shugnachand Jain Ji, who undertook the construction of 52 Jain temples in a series. Later, with time, the construction of the temple was carried out by the Jain community. Within the temple complex, inspired by Acharya Shri 108 Viragsagar Maharaj Ji, a Kirti Stambh has been established. The main feature of the temple is the Vedi (altar), where golden work has been done, enhancing the beauty and grace of all the idols enshrined. The Moolnayak Pratima (main deity’s idol) in the Garbh Grah (sanctum sanctorum) is of the first Tirthankar, Shri Adinath Bhagwan, which is more than 600 years old. Besides the Moolnayak Pratima, there are idols of Parshvanath Bhagwan, Mahavir Bhagwan, Shitalnath Bhagwan, Chandraprabhu Bhagwan, and other deities within the Vedi are enshrined. Additionally, an idol of Shri Parshvanath Bhagwan Ji made of silver is also enshrined within the Vedi. The arrival of Shri 108 Vidyasagar Maharaj Ji’s Guru revered Shri 108 Gyan Sagar Maharaj Ji, also took place in Hisar, and his arrival led people to seek his blessings, making their lives successful.
Dharamshala
In Hisar, there is a community of 250 to 300 Digambar Jain families. Shri Digambar Jain Panchayat Committee manages the temples in the area efficiently. Within the temple complex, there is an accommodation for Jain Saints (Tyagi Bhawan), which was previously used as a Jain dharamshala. Due to the discontinuation of the dharamshala's operation, it has been repurposed as a Tyagi Bhawan for Jain Saints. Accommodation facilities for pilgrims visiting the temple are provided upon request. Additionally, dining facilities are also available upon request. Adjacent to the temple, there is a Jain Girls Senior Secondary School, managed by the temple committee, where education is provided up to the 12th grade with excellent facilities at a minimal cost.
The committee has also constructed the Shri 108 Acharya Nemi Sagar Jain Dharmarth Ayurvedic Pharmacy for the community, where medical treatment is provided at nominal charges. Ayurvedic expert Shri Narendra Sharma Ji provides ayurvedic treatment, dental treatment is provided by Priyanka Sharma Ji in the Jain Pharmacy built by the committee. A physiotherapy center for women has also been constructed by the Jain committee. To familiarize children with Jain principles, Shri Virag Sagar Sanskar Pathshala is run by Jain women, so that when they grow up, they can lead their lives based on Jain principles. The Pathshala operates every Sunday morning.
History
According to ancient scriptures like the Uttaradhyayana Sutra, the name Issukar Nagar has been mentioned several times. Renowned Sanskrit scholar and historian Dr. Vasudevsharan Agrawal believes that the Issukar Nagar described in this ancient scripture is none other than the present-day city of Hisar. The region to the northwest of Delhi has been influenced by the culture of pilgrimage, and 2600 years ago, Shri Mahavira, the 24th Jain Tirthankara, traveled through the Magadha region to the Sindh region. Shri Mahavira also visited the city of Issukar during his travels, where six Jain Saints attained enlightenment. This fact has been confirmed by Jain scholar and educator Dr. Himmat Singh Jain. Scriptures also mention that the region near Hisar, including areas like Bhiwani, Dadri, and Mahendragarh, was a stronghold of Rajput Jains during the reign of King Vardhan.
