Introduction
Shri 1008 Parshvanath Digambar Jain Mandir in Jaikampura is located in the Gurugram district of Haryana state. The construction of the temple was commissioned by the Jain community 150 years ago in the form of a Jain temple. Initially, the temple had twelve doors, hence it is also known as the Baradari Mandir. Over time, renovation work has been carried out in the temple by the Jain community. During the Panchkalyanak (consecration ceremony) in 1975, another Vedi was established in the temple by the Jain community. The Mool (main) Vedi of the temple houses the Moolnayak Pratima (main deity’s idol) of Shri 1008 Parshvanath Bhagwan. This idol is approximately 1500 years old. Along with the Mool Pratima, other Jain idols including Shri 1008 Mahavir Bhagwan, Shri 1008 Chandraprabhu Bhagwan, Shri 1008 Padmaprabhu Bhagwan, and Shri 1008 Munisuvratnath Bhagwan are also enshrined in the Vedi.
The construction of the second Vedi of the temple was carried out by Shrimati Munni Devi, wife of Lala Multan Singh Jain, the resident of Delhi. The Moolnayak Pratima in this Vedi is of Shri Parshvanath Bhagwan’s without a snake hood, which is said to be 500 years old and is enshrined with a Chaubisi Pratima made of Ashtadhatu (eight metals). The third Vedi of the temple was constructed in memory of the late Shri Jwala Prasad Jain and his wife, Shrimati Madi Devi, by their son Shri Shiv Prasad Paras Das Jain. The Moolnayak Pratima in this Vedi is also of Shri 1008 Parshvanath Bhagwan. In the fourth Vedi of the temple, the Moolnayak pratima is of Shri 1008 Nemnath Bhagwan made of black stone. In the fifth Vedi of the temple, the Moolnayak Pratima is of Shri 1008 Kunthunath Bhagwan.
Underneath the temple, there is a Ratanmayi Chaubisi Vedi. Also, in the basement, there is a Vedi of Mata Jinvani. A large hall has been constructed in the basement for the devotees where they can sit and study in solitude. Often, when Jain Saints visit the temple, the hall is used for the Pravachan (discourse) as well. Adjacent to the temple, there is a Jain Dharamshala, where in the year 2002-2003, under the presence of Acharya Shri 108 Bahubali Maharaj, the construction of Dharmachakra was carried out. The Dharamshala includes accommodations for the Jain Saints, proper rooms for pilgrims, an auditorium hall, two large halls for cultural programs, and the Bhagwan Parshvanath Charitable Medicare Center for medical facilities. Besides Jain devotees, people from other communities also have faith in the temple. Apart from the local Jain community, people from distant areas also visit the temple for Puja-Prakshal (worship) and Abhishek (auspicious bath of the idol) to find peace.
Dharamshala
Gurugram has evolved into an industrial hub equipped with all kinds of facilities where people from diverse communities reside together. There are approximately seven to eight hundred Jain families in Gurugram. Several Jain temples have been established in the region, each having its own committee. The necessities for devotees visiting the Shri 1008 Parshvanath Digambar Jain Mandir in Jaikampura are managed by the temple committee. Arrangements for lodging are also provided by the temple committee for Pilgrims coming from distant areas to visit the temple. A Jain Dharamshala has been constructed to facilitate lodging arrangements. The Dharamshala comprises ten rooms and also includes a lecture hall for listening to the discourses of the Jain Saints. The arrangement for the Ahar of the Jain Saints is also made in the Dharamshala. The Dharamshala is also utilized for social programs. Along with the Dharamshala, the Bhagwan Parshvanath Charitable Medicare Center is also operated, which provides facilities such as homeopathy, physiotherapy center, eye center, dentist, pediatrician, and dermatologist, among others.
