Ambala Housing Board Jain Mandir
In Ambala, you can see a very beautiful arrangement. There are 6 Digambar Jain Mandirs at 6 different locations in Ambala Cantt, but the overall management of all the temples is mainly done by the Shri Digambar Jain Sabha, Gur Bazar. Although the administrators of all the temples are different, they are all members of the Shri Digambar Jain Sabha, Gur Bazar. The members of the committee are as follows :
Introduction
Shri 1008 Digambar Jain Manastambh Mandir is located in Subhash Nagar, Housing Board Colony, Ambala Cantt. The temple is situated at a distance of 13 kilometers from the Dhulkot Railway Station. Initially, the temple occupied an area of 60 to 70 square yards, but due to the increase in the number of devotees, land was acquired adjacent to the temple to make it more grand. The temple has undergone renovation twice so far. The construction work of the temple was carried out under the guidance of Acharya Shri 108 Gupti Sagar Ji Maharaj.
The exterior of the temple showcases a depiction of Samavsharan above the main entrance gate. From the main entrance gate upon climbing the stairs leads to the main hall of the temple, where visitors will first encounter a Manastambh. In most temples, the Manastambh is erected outside the temple premises, but here, it is placed in a large hall, directly in front of the Mool Vedi (main altar). The walls of the temple hall are adorned with beautifully crafted depictions of the tales of Bhagwan Jinendra Ji. Upon entering the hall, one feels as if they have entered a golden realm, with the walls resembling golden artwork.
The Moolnayak Pratima (main deity’s idol) in the temple is of Shri 1008 Mahavir Swami Ji, made of white stone. Additionally, idols of Shri 1008 Adinath Bhagwan, Shri 1008 Chandraprabhu Bhagwan, Shri 1008 Padmaprabhu Bhagwan, Shri 1008 Suparshvanath Bhagwan, Shri 1008 Munisuvratnath Bhagwan, Shri 1008 Neminath Bhagwan, Shri 1008 Parshvanath Bhagwan, and another idol Shri 1008 Mahavir Bhagwan are also enshrined in the temple. The maintenance of the temple is carried out by the Shri 1008 Digambar Jain Sabha Gur Bazar. Daily rituals such as Puja-Prakshal (worship) and Abhishek (auspicious bath of the idol) are performed with great enthusiasm by the Jain community in the temple.
Dharamshala
A short distance from the temple, near Sadar Bazar (Ambala Cantt), behind Hargolal, is the Shri Digambar Jain Dharamshala located on Cross Road 4. It offers a total of 16 rooms with air conditioning. The Dharamshala is affiliated with the Bada Jain Mandir and the Chota Jain Mandir in Gur Bazar. It features two large halls suitable for all kinds of auspicious occasions, along with two rooms equipped with double beds and sofas. The Dharamshala also has a receptionist service and the convenience of a lift. It provides facilities similar to those of a large hotel, ensuring cleanliness and hygiene. The Dharamshala is available to people from all walks of life. For local residents, the Shri Digambar Jain Dharamshala serves as an important facility. The management of the Dharamshala is handled by the Shri Digambar Jain Sabha Gur Bazar.
Jain Samaj
The Jain community in Ambala Cantt has also made significant contributions to the welfare of society. Several Jain Saints have visited the city from time to time. Every year, grand Rath Yatra are held during Jain festivals in which people from all walks of life participate. There are more than five hundred Digambar Jain families in the region. Additionally, even the Jain Shwetamber community is present in Ambala. There is a beautiful arrangement for temples in Ambala Cantt, where the management of all the temples in the area is handled by the Shri Digambar Jain Sabha Gur Bazar. The Jain community has actively participated in various local activities and undertaken numerous initiatives for the benefit of the local society.
1. The construction of Shri A.D. Jain Lord Mahavir Jain Public School in Ambala Cantt was completed in 1995, with over 4000 students enrolled.
2. Jain Girls Senior Secondary School on Staff Road, Ambala Cantt, was built between 1930 and 1935.
3. There is also a Physiotherapy Center in the area, which is 20-30 years old and was constructed by the Jain community.
History
Ambala is divided into two sub-regions known as Ambala City and Ambala Cantt (Cantonment). It is situated on the border of Haryana and Punjab, approximately 200 kilometers north of the capital city Delhi, on the Sher Shah Suri Marg (National Highway 1). It is an important industrial city known for the manufacturing of scientific instruments, sewing machines, mixers, and machinery, as well as for cotton ginning, flour milling, and handloom industries. The origin of the name Ambala might have been derived from Ambalika of the Mahabharata. Another belief is that there were many mango groves (Amba in Hindi) in the area, leading to its name Ambala. In modern times, Ambala is renowned for its production of scientific equipment and mixer industries. It is also referred to as the "Science City" due to its concentration of scientific instrument industries. Almost 40% of India's scientific instruments are manufactured in Ambala.
